Finding the right accessories in life, not just in terms of fashion, but in everything you purchase, is all about that journey of self-discovery. Sometimes, we can feel like we’ve been going down the wrong track or have not been true to ourselves. When it comes to developing a unique and personal style, here are some of the most important elements to remember.

The Period of Self-Reflection and Discovery

Sometimes, we need to just recognise what makes us feel confident and comfortable. It’s easy enough to go along with the herd rather than actually taking the time to think about who we are. So rather than feeling like you’ve wasted a lot of time by just going with the flow, actually sticking your heels in and considering the bigger picture can help.

Identify not just your interests or personality, but also your values, and look at this in conjunction with your lifestyle and daily activities. Someone who’s been hanging around with a sporty crowd and has suppressed their nerdier or librarian-leaning tendencies may have never invested in something stylish like Reykjavik eyes glasses. But when you take those opportunities to look at both sides of the coin to really get to grips with who you are, this period of self-reflection becomes a wonderful and exciting journey.

Getting Inspiration and Exploring

Sometimes, we don’t necessarily understand our taste, which is why the research part is so critical. Understand things like your body type or hair type and use platforms like Pinterest to create a visual mood board. Look at those things that you truly admire and ask yourself if you can pull them off.

The great thing is that the more research you do, the more options you uncover. Sometimes, we like what we like and just stick to that, but over time, it can certainly be counterproductive. Cast your net wider than you think!

Take Some Risks

It’s hard to experiment, but this is why we need to get over that initial blockage. You may want to make changes to your hair and experiment with different colours, but everybody around you has been used to you being a certain way. It’s about taking those creative risks with pieces you love, even if they’re outside of your comfort zone.

There are always things that make us look fantastic regardless, like a little black dress or the colour black in general, but if you’re feeling like you can’t experiment too much, you can always incorporate unique accessories to personalise your outfits.

Focus on Authenticity

A lot of the time, we experiment with styles to get away from who we are. Everybody goes through that phase in life where they try on different things-usually in their 20s, but we can get older and still keep trying new things. However, rather than focusing on fleeting trends that you may go off in a few months, it’s always about prioritising comfort and convenience.

Look at the things that truly make you feel good, but also focus on pieces that make you feel like you are actually yourself! There are a number of principles we can follow, and if you consider these, you can truly craft a style that reflects your personality and, more importantly, makes you feel authentic.
