6 Things That Are More Damaging Than You Think

Most people base their monthly income on their number of hours worked or whether or not they landed a lucrative client when considering money management or even how much they bring in. However, did you know that the amount of money you make each month is greatly influenced by your way of life? It’s not something that most people give much thought to because, well, money is money. Take a look at how your lifestyle may be affecting your financial situation and how you can improve it.

Alcohol and smoking

We won’t bore you with a lecture on the dangers of smoking; thanks to the large warnings that are now printed on cigarette packs, everyone is aware of these dangers. Despite this, a sizable portion of the world’s population continues to partake in tobacco use, and an even larger proportion of people occasionally imbibe in alcohol. While the occasional drink is fine, it’s not uncommon to see people who are binge drinking, and this can quickly add up. Smokers and drinkers, whether one or both, should think about reducing their consumption because the money you spend to maintain these vices can put you in debt.

Not only that, but drinking heavily can lead to problems in the workplace. If you show up to work hungover, your output is going to suffer and could eventually lead to you losing your job. If you’re struggling with alcohol consumption and don’t want to show your addiction in the workplace, you should seek immediate help and get yourself back on track.

Sleep deprivation

For many of us, staying up late to catch up on work or relax in front of the television is all too easy. If you don’t get enough sleep, your brain will suffer, and you’ll be less productive at work. Your lack of sleep could be affecting how much money you’re making if your salary is based on clientele or even commission. So, how much sleep is considered adequate? Sleeping for six hours each night is deemed sufficient for many people. Check the amount of sleep you need to function normally!

What you’re eating

You probably already knew this, but the food you put into your body can also influence how your brain functions. Consuming junk food can throw off the delicate chemical balance in your brain, leading to feelings of depression and lethargy. If you feel like you’re falling behind at work or that you’re just not in tip top condition, take a look at what you’re eating and make any necessary adjustments so that you can be in top form as often as possible. This will allow you to be successful in whatever endeavours you undertake. Your immune system will be weakened if you don’t eat the right things, which increases the likelihood that you will become ill more frequently and require more time off of work.

Steroids

Many people around the world are dependent on steroid use to achieve their muscle-building goals. While using steroids to bulk up and get in shape may seem like a harmless habit on the surface, the steroids themselves can be extremely harmful to your health. Acne and mood swings may also resurface, as they did during puberty. Reduced fertility is one of the most common side effects.

Before abandoning your health goals, consider using foods that are rich in protein instead of taking a dangerous drug. Steroids can be addictive, so if you’re having trouble coming down from them, see your doctor.

Gambling

Gambling, despite the fact that it doesn’t affect us physically, can be extremely detrimental to our financial well-being. It’s also an extremely addictive habit to form, as you convince yourself that ‘one more bet’ won’t do any harm. Talk to a trusted friend or family member about your gambling addiction if you’ve got yourself into a rut.

Exercise

Last but not least, similar to the effects of the food you eat, if you do not get enough exercise, your body may start to slow down and become less able to easily fight off infections than it was when you were fitter. You won’t get paid for time off work in most cases (unless your boss is super chill), so you should make sure to get some exercise every week and generally take better care of your body so that you don’t lose out on money (this comes with the added bonus of improved health).
