Tips on Making a Home Generate Higher Well-being

Well-being is the name given to your overall sense of happiness, contentment, and how healthy you are, both mentally and physically. Well-being is essentially the whole package, and there are many ways you can focus on improving it. One way is to make changes to your home. The home has an influence on our well-being in many ways. It is the space we spend a good proportion of our time, and our surroundings do affect us. They can make us feel stressed and depressed and even make us ill, and they can uplift, inspire, comfort and relax us too. So, it is up to you to put the effort into your home so it can do all these things. Let’s have a look at how:

Balance

The home needs to be a space where you create a balance between the working day and the over-sensory experience of the outside world. The modern world is a smorgasbord of advertising, comments, opinions, images, etc., which can all confuse, stress and bombard us. The home needs to be a balance from this. In fact, if you have the space, it may be an idea to have a room which is a sanctuary away from the madness of the modern world. To do this, take all modern tech out of this room. Paint it neutral, calming colours, perhaps even paint a calming mural on the wall. Have a few plants in this room. Perhaps put in a chaise lounge or a yoga mat and use this space to read, do yoga, or some other sort of mindfulness technique like meditation. The idea of this room is to switch off and relax. If you do not have space for a spare room, can you have a corner of another room or even have an outhouse or converted shed?

Aesthetics

If you want a home to uplift and inspire you, then you news to work on the aesthetic. There are a lot of ways you can do this, from painting a mural, creating a gallery wall, installing panelling, using colour and patterns on rugs and throws, etc. How about getting some unusual ornaments and even sculptures? Think about who you are and what interests you. Try and use your home to highlight your own personal tastes and sensibilities. If you like that gothic look, go for it. A home should be an extension of you. So consider it a blank canvas on which to express yourself.

Fix Things

A home that has a lot of broken things is not going to help you maintain a high level of well-being. If you have a snag list that you never work on, it’s about time you did. Het that pen and paper out and start writing a list of all the things that are wrong. From that broken drawer to that dodger light switch, and start fixing things up. If there are wear and tear issues too, it is time you upgrade; for example, new balham flooring can really uplift a room.
