About the author
Caitlin Wahrer is a Maine girl through and through. She was born to two hippies who raised her in Canaan, a small town in central-southern Maine without a single stoplight in it. Caitlin left the state for four years to study criminal justice and marriage and family studies at a college in Pennsylvania. She returned to Maine after graduation to attend law school. She practices civil litigation in Portland. She and her husband, also a lawyer, live in South Portland with their dog
My review
Damage is a psychological twisty thriller of a book that contains male rape and the aftermath for both the victim and the family. Detective Rice who has cancer contacts Julia and the book begins in 2019. With not long left to live he asks Julia, the sister-in-law of rape victim Nick to see him at home as he wants to discuss Nick’s case, which was the case that he worked in 2015.
The timelines go back and forth but it isn’t confusing as I have found some other books to be like this. It was a real page turner of a book. The subjects are delicate but written in such a wonderful way. I liked the short chapters as it made the book flow along quickly to me. Seeing things from each persons view point.
This book will stay with me for quite some time. A hard hitting book but done with subtly and compassion still.
