And so began a diplomatic career that ranged from Khartoum to the Khyber Pass, taking in service in the Gulf, Paris, Berlin and, as British Ambassador, in a post from which the Foreign Office had barred him twenty-eight years earlier.

My review

Sir Michael Burton kept a memoir since 2011 and he explains why it has taken this long.

In this book Sir Michael Burton talks about his life and his family in this memoir that shows us British diplomacy up close and this is something we usually do not get an insight into. It covers a wide range of times including his family, childhood and school days.

It has some wonderful photographs and considering the Queen’s death recently these type of photographs will no doubt be cherished. An absolutely beautiful memoir, well written and keeps you engrossed.
