Top Tips for Helping Your Child with their Homework

It isn’t always easy to encourage your child to do their homework; however there are ways that parents can help to make this activity less stressful and more enjoyable.

Follow these helpful strategies from an Independent Boy’s School in Twickenham to help your child with their homework troubles…

Support your child

The more supported a child feels at home, the better you will find they perform at school work. Parents can help their children to make the most of their education by demonstrating a positive attitude towards learning. Show your support at home by helping with school projects, quizzing your child on school topics, finding interesting documentaries to watch and rewarding your child for their school achievements.

Stay close by

Share study time with your son or daughter by using it as an opportunity to catch up on some of your own work. You could even use ‘study time’ to take an online learning class and better your own education. Sit together in the same room as your child while they complete homework. This will not only mean that you are close by if they need your help, but it isalso a great way to demonstrate a positive attitude towards learning.

Help them to get organised

Help your child to establish an effective homework routine by creating a study schedule. This is easy to set up on their computer or tablet and it will enable your child to dedicate some of their time, each day to homework. Your child can also use this schedule to keep track of school events, exams and holidays.

Don’t forget to have fun

If your child is studying a particular topic at school, you could help to make their homework more fun with an educational day out. This could be to a museum, art gallery or a local park. Learning outside of school offers a number of educational benefits and will help to inspire your child.
It will also make a fun day out for all the family!
