Bad news is in most cases you find out you have bed bugs only after they bite you through the night.

“But why do I have bed bugs? I keep my house clean. Where did they come from?” 

These are some of the most common questions people ask.

So here I will answer the questions anyone might have about these little blood-sucking creatures and hope they can be useful.

What is a bed bug?

Bed bugs are tiny insects that just like mosquitoes feast on blood.

As the name suggests, they mostly invade people’s beds. They are active during the night when they come out and feed on your blood, while you are asleep.

It truly sounds like a horror film, doesn’t it?

Are bed bug bites dangerous?

Probably the most important question to have.

Here is the good news. No!

Itchy and irritating yes, but unlike other blood-sucking insects bites from bed bugs don’t carry any danger from diseases.

Make sure you are not bitten repeatedly and once the bites stop, the symptoms will subside on their own in 1-2 weeks.

What do they look like?

Bed bugs are brown, oval-shaped, and can grow to be 4-5 mm. They have six legs and a pair of front wings, but can’t fly.

A newly hatched bed bug is called a nymph. They are translucent and no bigger than 1 mm. 

How did I get bed bugs?

Bed bugs attach themselves on clothes or luggage.

Sometimes, people who come back from long travels bring the little pests along. 

Most often when you bring home second-hand mattresses and furniture, there can be bed bugs attached to them.

How do I know I have bed bugs?

Signs of bed bugs can be really easy to notice – waking up with bites over your skin, that means your bed is infested. You can sometimes even see them.

They hide during the day, but if you have white sheets, it’s possible you’ll see little brown dots running around.

Why do I have bed bugs even after my home is clean?
