Get winter ready

Now that the colder weather is becoming more frequent we all getting ready for winter. If you have a fireplace then you may be planning on what to buy to become winter ready.

Open fires and wood burning stoves are becoming more and more popular now. With an open fire especially you have to prepare it for winter for your safety and of the environment.

What fuel to use

Choosing the right fuel for your fireplace is essential. Defra (Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs) has announced that there are certain restrictions on the burning of coal and wet wood. The lower the moisture in the wood you are burning the less pollutants it will give off into the atmosphere.

White Horse Energy sells wood that has a certification mark ready to burn. This certification mark means the ready to burn wood is available to people that can show to Woodsure that their logs have a moisture content below 20%.

White Horse Energy sells firewood and a great range of natural firelighters and kindling too. They sell them in packs to make it easier to choose what you need. Get prepared for winter.

Chimney sweeping

Late summer make sure you book in with a reputable chimney sweep. This will make sure your fire performs how it should.

Also give your chimney or stove a good clean and check to make sure there is no damage or cracks.

Cleaning your fire out each time you use it can help with maintaining it too. Of course make sure it is completely cold before doing this.
