I retired from a career in the corporate world in November 2019 with three objectives. To travel around the world and fly fish in the most exotic locations, to play my electric guitar better than I do and to write a novel that I could be genuinely proud of. The pandemic and lockdown in March 2020 put my first two objectives on hold leaving me no option but to start writing. Two and half years later, ‘Maybe It’s About Time’, my first novel, was published.
As a piece of work, I am incredibly proud of it. It makes me laugh and cry in equal measure. I am even more proud that readers seem to be enjoying it just as much and it is getting great reviews.
Travel and fly fishing has now started again, my guitar playing is improving and a sequel to ‘Maybe It’s About Time’ is planned to start in 2023!
My review
As you all know I read and review a lot of books, which I love. But when I started reading this book, I just knew I was going to adore it. The characters we follow mainly are Marcus, Claire and Gavin. They all have a very different upbringing and circumstances but they all connect in some way. I’m not going to give too much away as I want you all to read this book!
It was set at the very beginning of 2020 so references to Covid-19 are included and reminded me of that time, even though it was only a few years ago it already feels a lifetime in some ways too.
So many parts of this book made me smile but then others made me cry a great deal. These characters felt like my friends by the end of it and even though the book is over 500 pages long, yes it is a big one, the time went so quickly and I cherished every word.
I can honestly say this is the best book I have read for a long time. Definitely the best book I have read this year for sure.
This is the Author’s first book and that is amazing! I cannot wait for the sequel to be written by this Author because they do have a great way of telling a story. I will be re reading this every year and it will have pride of place on my book case.
I urge you all to pick up this book and read it asap, you wont be sorry.
