When Norfolk police officer Anna McArthur escapes the most boring date ever experienced, she isn’t quite prepared for the grim kind of excitement that will soon follow.
Walking past a moonlit chapel in King’s Lynn’s centre, something catches her eye. It is the body of a woman slumped against the medieval building, clearly murdered.
The victim had “Catfish” carved into her chest, suggesting some sort of motive, yet there are few other clues as to her identity.
It’s going to be a challenging case, not least because Anna has a reputation amongst her colleagues as “Crazy McArthur”, someone who acts first and thinks later.
Anna jumps at the opportunity to prove her worth, and her gutsy actions will get her noticed, perhaps even by her dreamboat boss DCI Aaron Burns.
About the Author
Sadie lives in West Norfolk with her husband, two children, and demanding cat named Random. She works in the education sector, but her real passion is for writing stories with a gripping mystery, attractive setting and a host of characters to love, hate, laugh with and root for.
My review
Loved that this book is set in Norfolk where I live, so it was easy to imagine the places she was referring to in the book. The characters are well developed, and it was a very well-written book. The story was gripping right from the first chapter, keeping me engaged throughout the entire book. The main character, Anna McArthur, is a likeable and relatable character, and we hear a little about her back story too, which gives her character more depth and makes her even more compelling.
As I read through the book, I found myself fully immersed in the plot and the setting. The detailed descriptions and the realistic portrayal of the various locations added an extra layer of enjoyment for me, as I could visualise every scene vividly.
Really looking forward to book two in this series, as I can imagine it will be another great read, possibly even more captivating than the first. A definite read if you love detective stories that keep you guessing.
