How Do My Child’s Lifestyle Choices Affect Their Education?

A child’s lifestyle choices will in fact impact a lot of their study, their progress and how they
do in real life situations. With diet, sleep patterns and your child’s availability to different skills
that impact their lifestyle there’s a lot to consider when raising a child properly. Here are
some factors to consider from this independent school in Cardiff.

Sleep schedule
Like all of us we should all be valuing a good night’s sleep. 8 – 10 hours is the usual
recommendation for young adults and above, but your child may be used to heading to sleep
at random times in the day. When your child reaches teenage age it then becomes difficult,
as they’re more likely to stay up late and even sleep in.

Ensure your child is getting enough sleep each night, as it can make them feel restless and
really exhausted for their days in school. Your child needs to concentrate as much as they
can and having a good sleep will help make school better for them.

Diet
It’s a very common lifestyle choice that can really impact your child’s level of attention and
focus, as well as mood swings and their emotions. Eating junk food, foods with high sugar,
fat or salt content, can really impact a child’s concentration. At a younger age we’re unable
to handle our emotions as much as our parents do, which is why promoting a healthy diet
will help.

A child’s access to different activities
Your child should be allowed to explore different activities on a regular basis. Having that
access will naturally help your child with their communication skills, their thought processes
and mental health. A child that isn’t able to experience these things will struggle a lot more in
school and in daily activities. Ensure that your child is allowed to take a break from the home
and the real world to explore their skills.
