Encourage them to be more social
Encouraging your child to attend summer holiday camps is a great way for them to make new friends. Although they will have friends at school, making new friends will give them new opportunities and find people more similar to them than those they know from school.
Broadening your child’s friendship circle will encourage them to choose friends that make them happy rather than having friends for the sake of feeling safer in the school environment.
Plus, learning to make new friends will make them feel more confident about speaking to new people. If they always stay in the school environment, they might find it challenging to spark conversations with new people as it will be outside their comfort zone.
Encourage them to be more mindful
Being mindful is a great way to feel more confident in themselves. It teaches us to accept and appreciate who we are, making us feel comfortable in our skin.
Some great ways to help your child be more mindful include:
- Journaling. Every person can benefit from journaling. It is a way to get your thoughts out of your head and down on paper. Asking a child to journal is similar to asking them to write a diary. Ask them to write down what they feel grateful for and how they feel. You could do it with them to guide and inspire them.
- Meditation. Meditation isn’t just for adults. It can be for children too. It is a great way for a child to boost their confidence as it encourages us to focus on who we are, stay present, and feel focused. It can be common for children to think ahead of time instead of in the present moment. So, meditating with them daily will allow them to focus and think about how they feel and who they want to be. It might seem a lot to ask a child to do this, but it will allow them to feel comfortable and settled in who they are. Meditation is a great technique for slowing down, which many energetic and hyperactive children can benefit from.
Allow them to fail
Throughout life, everyone makes mistakes and experiences failure. When your child experiences them, ensure not to speak down on them.
Allowing them to fail will help them avoid fear when something goes wrong. If you speak badly to them when they make a mistake, it might make them scared to talk to you in the future when something goes wrong.
The more they can talk to you about these things, the more they can let out and feel confident even when they do not succeed.
